I've just been checking back on this, and I think I know what happened now. As you might recall a few weeks before the contest ended we moved servers (because our old servers were not capable of handling the amount of people and songs we were getting). During the move we had to freeze a bunch of stuff to make sure it all got transferred correctly. After the move my contest administration interface was working fine, so I could see the votes coming in and I didn't think there was a problem. But I now suspect that the public charts you saw might not have been updating properly in sync with what I was seeing as an admin. We'll check the code there again before the next contest to make sure the public charts are updating regularly now. I was also off on tour and in the studio with my own band during that time (yes, I do have a professional musical career as well as this stuff!), so I wasn't able to be around all day every day to check on things during that period. Mainly my concern when I did get online was making sure the whole site didn't fall over under the pressure of the hits we were getting, and getting the server move happening without losing people's songs and stuff. So if I wasn't communicating too well at the time, my apologies for that. Hopefully I'm rectifying that a bit now :-) Rodney |

See previous replies to this question. > 2. Who chose the Jury, and how "stylistically balanced" is it (too lazy to do research about the mags now ;))? Each magazine sponsor got to propose one of their editors for the jury, MI7 didn't pick them. They represented a pretty wide cross-section of musical taste, both personally and in the mags they worked for. > 3.Why was the period of voting for users so long? We wanted to give as many people as possible the chance to both enter and vote - and as it happened we were getting quite a lot of both entries and votes right up to the deadlines, so clearly many other people wanted that as well. > 4. Why was the Top30 frozen for over a month - and of all things the decisive last month - with no movements or updates at all? See other post above for reply to this. > Personally, I would strongly wish that the administration made the next contests of this size more transparent from the very beginning and all throughout the process. Also, there should be a way to prevent users voting who just register here for that one purpose and are never being heard of again - that simply makes the contests into fashion shows of "who can activate the largest fan base?" How about something like "the user should have been a part of MI7 at least two months before the contest", as a precondition for voting? I do like that idea. I want to make sure these contests are fair just as much as you guys do, trust me. We at MI7 do this stuff because we genuinely love having the ability to bring musicians together, encourage them to communicate, and give them better tools to make music with. That's why we're here. So we really do appreciate your suggestions for making things better - hence this thread in the first place I suppose :-) Rodney |

fair enough Rodney, I guess you now have answered the questions. thanks for taking the time and let's now concentrate on the future rather than looking into errors during the past, misunderstandings and let's assume the lessons have been learned to ensure the next contest will not run into similar "problems" anymore. Many good suggestions are made here and I am sure MI7 will cather for this. We love this community that's for sure and we appreciate the work you are doing for us beside your "musical career" take care

these days I think that the response time is very very slow again. Again time to move to a new server ? |

I am not sure if it is only for me, but I think the MI7 community is currently incredibly slowly in performance although only a couple of members are online. So even with no or almost no traffic on the site the server seems to be overloaded ? Can you do something about this to speed it up again to where it was a couple of months ago ? |

Agreeing with my friend Mindmovie, there are some strong technical problems since a longer time on this site. Some things are still incredibly slow, also a short message problem, often with error message after writing and then posting a short message. So, it´s not inspiring to write these messages again and again.
High Hopes and greetings.. |

Hi guys, our webmaster have looked in to it but haven't found the reason for the sluggishness yet. He will do some more troubleshooting. Cheerio! |

If you really care about keeping this community alive It would be great and everybody would be more than thankful if you can fix the performance problems. It takes meanwhile hours to load up a new song, even looking into the community or trying to login to my profile is taking ages. In other words - in good old times it was a pleasure to visit this beautiful place - now it has got almost impossible. And this is not my PC or the connection I have a high speed internet connection. Myspace just takes nano second while MI7 takes minutes just to visit a friends profile.

Hi! We are very much aware of the problems with performance and sending private messages but are waiting for our programmers to help. Cheers,

Now, see; that was entirely the wrong thing to write. Whether you realize it or not, you represent the entire company when you post something, and you just said the following: "we know what the problem is, but it's not a priority". Fine. I mean, I know there's probably not a lot of money being in the community business; but I tell you this - there was a period of time when I was very active here, and it had absolutely nothing to do with the competition you were running. There was a healthy community, great musicians, and good company support/interest in keeping it running. You take that support away, and other things will go away too. Simple as that. |

Hi, our programmers have been looking at the problem and have already made some improvements to the performance. As you might have noticed the private messaging error is gone too.
Have a nice day! Emil |
