Work In Progress is a young talented band from Switzerland. With their versatile musical background and fusion of styles they create an exciting and distinctive sound.
Andy and Matt met at the conservatory in 1997. There was a direct musical “click” and they played a lot of classical, modern, folk and pop music together, before getting down to write their own songs. Since a band takes more than two, they asked friend bass-player and guitar-maker Olivier to join.
Matt and Olivier had co-formed a band called “Noxx” at the age of fourteen and debuted at an open-air festival covered by Swiss National TV. For sometime they went on gigging at college-venues and clubs, building up a solid local fan base. Now they’re back, with a choice of excellent songs and a fair amount of production skills.
WIP is not a traditional 3-man-band. They can tap into a pool of talented musicians and enrich their songs with precious help from special guests and friends. The result
is a fusion of styles [folk, rock, classical...] all melting in their creative pot.
Under the guiding hand of producer Corry Knobel the work is progressing and the Album WIP (working title) will soon be ready to launch.
Matt Zschokke
Born in Switzerland [November 25, 1978] Matt started playing the guitar at age 9 and knew that this was going to be his life. He co-wrote several songs and his musical influences range from classical to punk.
Matt studied music at the conservatory in Switzerland, Italy and Paris for 8 years and taught guitar in Geneva and Montreux for 5 years. Matt says: “I love all kinds of music but the challenge is to find your own style.”
Of Italian/Swiss origin Matt speaks 4 languages fluently and thanks his multi-cultural background for his passion for music. “Growing up in Italy and Switzerland, spending summers in Sicily and travelling a lot allowed me to fuse the north with the south into my music”.
Andy Antognini
Born in Switzerland [July 17, 1973] Andy was always marching to the beat of a drum but the real epiphany came at age 10, while playing along to a Bruce Springsteen song - from then on he was hooked! He went on to play all kinds of music... classical, hard-core punk, alternative, folk.
He studied music at the conservatory in Switzerland and is now teaching percussion in several music schools.
Andy plays guitar, piano and every kind of percussion...
”I also pretend to sing”. As a songwriter he wrote and co-wrote a lot of material on the WIP album [working title]. Andy’s passion for music and the band can be summed up as follows: “I love family, friends, but music saved my life... cheers!”
Olivier Martinoni
Born in Switzerland [March 7, 1978] Olivier played classical guitar for a couple of years but he soon switched to bass guitar, when he and his friends started their very first band. He always says, “ I mean, that’s what happened to Paul McCartney too, and I’m one of the biggest Sting
fans around.” As a school teacher [like his idol Sting] he taught in a Swiss primary school for several years, but finally decided to take some time off to fulfill an old dream - he attended a luthery school in Milan to become guitar-maker. “My passion for music and musical instruments is all-consuming. When I look at a stringed instrument, I’m overcome with emotion - just looking at the wood and the shape - and that’s before I even touch it!“
