my biography

I'm an amateur singer-songwriter, originally from a strict classical musical background, who now writes music that, judging from people's comments, can awake quite varied associations. I was born in 1970 and live in Stockholm, Sweden. Since I was a child, I've always been into some kind of musical activity. It's not until these past few years, however, that I've taken my dearest hobby - above all my songwriting - more seriously. I sing, play the piano and the viola (alto violin), and write songs. I recently (April 2008) released my third demo CD, "The Violin Girl", samples of which you can hear here. Please also do visit my website at http://www.mariannem.se! :)

Title: Ready for the World: Description: Written to two special people who changed my life - the leaders of the singer-songwriter course I attended the summers of 2006 and 2007.
Title: Donna Quijote: Description: This one is in Swedish, but hey, then you get a taste of my native language! :) Written in January 2008 and mirrors feelings I've been having throughout my whole life. Title: Not In My Eyes: Description: "Not In My Eyes" was first written in 2004, but I rewrote it some in 2006. I wrote it for a dear friend, who sadly has left this Earth now.
Title: Viola Moment # 1 for solo viola: Description: This is a sample of the first piece in a series of small pieces for solo viola (alto violin) that I'm working on. You may hear samples of the other pieces in the series so far on my website.

welcome to MI7.
I listened to your songs and also to the snippets on your website. I hear a lot of potential in them, but it is also clear that you have still a lot of work ahead to finish them.
Also, you have not a bad voice, but now it sounds often uncertain, and I think this has a lot to do with your breathing technique. I think it would be a good idea to take some sessions with a professional vocal coacher. I'm sure you and your music would benefit a lot from that.
A voice is like an instrument, and learning all the techniques to use it well is the key to good performances. It will also learn you to control the exact emotion you want to express in your music. My singer, Ann, is a vocal coacher, if you listen how she sings my songs (the link to her mi7 page is on my profile) you'll understand what I mean.

Anyway, I wish you a success with your work on your demo cd, and I look forward to hear about your progress.
