First and only “real job” was in TREND (Lad Lane) studios Dublin at the age of 16 where he was taught by John D’Ardis to firstly make coffee then engineer and produce. During this time he was working in folk groups throughout Ireland learning his craft. Bands like; “The Noble Clan” “The Druids” “The Carpetbaggers” etc. etc. and notably Wiskey Styl who were managed by a lad called Louis Walsh, (Boyz Own / Ronan Keating, X Factor). His first record deal was an album and was recorded at Eamonn Andrew’s studios for Release records. He toured Europe and America even Alaska of all places and ended up in Los Angeles and returned to London. It was during this time that Gus Dudgeon (Elton John’ producer) gave him some studio time to record original songs, Gus remained a close friend and mentor until his death. Phil then formed Poormouth with Jacky McAuley (Trader Horn, Them) and enlisted Tommy Lundy and Clive Bunker (Jetro Tull). The Poormouth enjoyed huge success in the UK and Europe. It was during this period that he met Dzal. It was the first drummer with Poormouth, (Tony Ryan) who took a tape to America and played it to Tom Lenahan who went on to record two of Phil’s songs (http://www.celtic-rock.com/lyrics.htm), and release them in the USA. Phil’s next band (The River Gods) with Tommy, enlisted Jamie West-Oram (The Fixx, Tina Turner) and Les Binks (Judas Priest drummer). Phil’s talents have taken him far and wide and he is still a working musician today.
