my biography

Ashley A.K.A. DJ Instinct first got into dance music at the early age of 11 after being given mix tapes of Breakbeat music. After a year of hearing other DJ's mixing Ashley soon wanted some decks of his own. At 14 years old whilst helping out at the local record store, he gained his first DJ set at Madison's in Bournemouth when they re-opened for some under 18 Breakbeat / Drum & Bass nights. A couple of years later his interest in wanting to produce his own style of the music, grew stronger as he bought his first Akai sampler. At 17 Ashley was travelling down to Knight Force Studios in London to produce his first Drum & Bass track, with Scott from the Organ Donors.

During the next few years, after investing in a full analogue studio, Ashley spent most of his spare time learning the basics of operating a recording studio & experimenting with female vocalists, working on a more funky, melodic style of liquid Drum & Bass, but with a heavy dance floor edge.

During the next 3-4 years he was a guest DJ at various clubs in Bournemouth including the Manor, Bar Tonka, Millennium & Urban. When Ashley was 20 he got his first track 'The Ultimate' released on 'One Nation's Volume 3' compilation album, under the guise 'Devils Own'. A couple of years later he released his first vinyl track on Destiny Records with his friends Shafie & Deep as the 'Kryptonite Kru' with 'Bow Ya Headz' & 'The Moth'.

In 2003 Ashley wanted to escape England's lovely weather, to travel to Australia and study at Sydney's School of Audio Engineering, SAE College, to enable him to step up the quality of his music productions & provide a Degree to help him gain work within the TV & Film industry. After his return to the UK in Sep’04, he made the final leap of changing his audio studio from analogue hardware to digital software, acquiring a Macintosh G5 and Logic Pro 7.

In 2005, Ashley moved to London, and gained various work experience at Film companies, including Partisan Films, and finally found a full time job working at Wild Tracks Audio Studios in Soho, but later found that the mundane 9 to 5 was not the route for him.

After some time spent travelling to Snowboard & DJ in the French Alps, Ashley now resides in Bournemouth, on England's South coast, and is currently locked away working on various material including Breaks, Drum & Bass, Hip Hop, and down-tempo Chill Out music.

The music above is DJ Instincts latest material, available for your listening pleasure....enjoy!

Peace
