my sounds

Title: Submerged (Remix)
Noalbum_80
Description: A heavily re-worked song from my first album Naoise, featuring new, lush production by myself and vocals from the inimitable Anchor Méjans. This is quite a mix of styles for me, combining my older, less sophisticated work with new experimentation. Enjoy!
Title: Still On The Surface
Noalbum_80
Description: Composed under sleep deprivation and without any stylistic goal other than to convey a vague, complex emotional state, "Still On The Surface" is a rather challenging ambient piece. The arrangement is technically minimal, but comes across as atmospheric and lush. It was inspired by experiments in dense, effect-laden soundscapes and noise music that I began after my last EP, and influenced by neo-classical, shoegaze and ambient works rather than the traditional pop, rock and electronic music that is so prevalent in my other compositions. The melody is free-flowing; heavily reverbed, echoed, chorused keyboards, strings and a xylophone slowly pass through several movements, often in vastly different time signatures. It's a change in direction, and not one I'm sure I will fully explore, but one I felt was worth sharing.
Title: Churchfall
Noalbum_80
Description: Moody, emotional classical piece that closed my first album, Naoise.
Title: Space-Based Utopia
Noalbum_80
Description: Ambient/Chillout track from my first album, Naoise.
Title: Rainclouds
Noalbum_80
Description: "Rainclouds" is a slow, ambient track from 8. It's very mellow, but grows more and more energetic as it progresses. This is the longest song from 8, mostly because of the 67.5 BPM tempo. Based on a pad sample from Dream In Blue by A Minor Theory, this uses an unusual drum pattern in that the snare falls on the 1 and 3 beats, rather than 2 and 4 which is what I usually program. Lots of shoegaze elements in this multilayered track. Enjoy!

actually a lossless FLAC version of the lead vocal track of WAIT is available at ccMixter (has been there from day 1!) One actually has to click on the Download link on that ccMixter page to see the multiple files behind the main one.

Here's the URL directly to the file: right click on this and select "save link as"

Hey - just listened through your CCMixter Collective tracks, and wanted to send my congrats. It's a success on two fronts - it's a fantastic example of pulling off a collaboration across musical styles/geography, etc. - and it's a really strong result.

My favourites are Blind Date and Fire in the Glass Asylum - really incredible tracks. You've done a great job at tying them all together in a coherent package.

Great stuff, and congrats again.

Hey, DJ Rkod.
Since there was a contest based on your work, I thought I’d look up the original. Have been playing Spaced-Based Utopia, this afternoon. Very soothing. Nice. Still On The Surface was next. Whilst reading your notes @3:07, I started to drift ... maybe I got to that vague, complex emotional state of which yea speake. Then again, you were sleep deprived. Hmm ... who knows, who cares, who dares to dream? RTQ

Thank you very much for your comment on The Hole In The Universe. It took me into a new and completely different direction. A much needed change at the time. I am glad you like it.

Ofcourse it's not up to me, but a little bit more of an exploration in the direction of Still On The Surface sounds like a good idea to me. I have just listened to the Colab/Blake/Jenny collaboration and both their and your song show what a great place for good music this community is.

Hi DJ,
I came over to listen to your atmospheric tracks. I voted for all of them, my favourite was the very delicate Churchfall.
Wishing you all the best,

Jef

Hello DJ,

I have been listening to and voting for your (old) songs. Why did you decide to enter old songs into the contest in stead of some new ones from 8 or Safer? Not that I don't like the old stuff, but I was just wondering.

Best wishes,

Michel.

Hey Rkod - sorry I didn't get around to listening to your calendargirl track earlier - but I just wanted to say that it's one heck of a trip.
The instrumentation and effects are just outstanding. The vocals together with the pads towards the second half bring a sort of female New Order to mind - and it works beautifully. Great work.

Hey there my RT compadre! You're tunes are quite kicking (when need be) and lovely (when need be). I wish I could infuse that much energy and sonic interest in my music. Ah, maybe one day. Keep up the good work. I still haven't checked out all the material you posted the other day, but I will get around to it.

Thanks for your advice RKOD, I have downloaded everything and will try to do my best to create something on this track. Are you planning to make it an official contest ? Rodney was looking for the next one so you may think about this.
member image Fireman | about 1 year ago
I like "Rainclouds" and "Pound" the most. You`re very good at combining sounds that blend together and contrast each other at the same time. Oh... and I like your picture, very funny.
