my biography

Hello, my name is Arol. I am 69 years old. I began to sing when I was 61 years old. All of my music is improvisation, lyrics, music, and all. When the music starts I have to center and find out whats in my heart, then its like going into a trance and telling the truth of whats on mind and in my soul. I am singing to get something out of me, something thats blocked. I feel about singing and my music like it's indigenous music. I sing the way people everywhere have sung with or without music, since time immemorial. The way mothers sing to their children, the way I sang to mine --- the songs are about my life --- stories based on facts, longings, love, pain... My tonality is my own, it's what I do --- it's what I beleive Art should be about and I hope I can touch as many of you as I can.

I'm putting up some of the music that my late life-partner, Wulf Zendik, did. He played music up until his death in 1999. He invented many of the instruments both he and I played. I thought of some of my dear new friends here might like to hear it.
He was a very unique artist, philosopher, poet, and writer. These are two tracks of his.

my sounds

Title: Wulf_Sage
Noalbum_80
Description: A tone-poem recorded in 1968. We has an argument that morning and I had left for a long walk in the hills. When I returned, we apoligized and he played this improvised song for me.
Title: Wulf_My Arol (when she sees yellow)
Noalbum_80
Description: A tone-poem that Wulf recorded in the mid-1990's. The song is dedicated to me and is a song that, of course, I treasure more than ever since his death in 1999.
Title: Shadow Lands
Noalbum_80
Description: This is a new song recorded this year. It is soon to be released on a new album.
Title: Help Me Up
Soul-cover2
Description: This song is about the last moments in the life of my beloved Wulf, my mate of 47 years. It’s about our last moments together when he passed from life to death as I held his hand. I will always love him and I will always sing about him.
Title: Soul Crying in the Night
Soul-cover2
Description: I really don’t know consciously where this song came from, but it expresses a feeling I have many times in my life and I wonder if others feel he same thing?

my influences

My major influences are Sarah Vaughan, Lena Horne, Mercedes Sousa, Nina Simone, Billy Eckstine, Pavarotti.... I could go on and on. I'm not inspired to sing like them, but inspired by their artistry and their daring and their passion....

Hi Baby,
How are you?

Yo, Babe ... how's it hanging?—No wait, I didn't really say that, did I? One should never ask hot chicks such a question. Hang on, let me start again ... "Ahem" ... Arol, my dear, I hope you are well and ... how's it hanging? 8—)

I trust all is well? Radio Show, Zendik Farm and all?

Maybe you knew, but in case you didn't, on Jef/Aeronaut's myspace page he has got the cover of a very fine looking cd with the attached line: Deep Sounds From Arol ... Nice looking cover, my dear. Bravo! Hope it's selling by the bucket loads.

Also, in case you feel like venturing around the Mi7 place, Jef & I have a new song, Falling, and he's finishing off a rather impressive collection of pieces:Dreams Are Buried Here, in his own inimitably melancholic style!

Anyway, Arol, stay creative, my dear. Big Hug to you. RT

Hey, Arol. Thank you for your words, my dear.

"A male who can sing" ... well, most important is the lyrical idea and melody. I, then just try and warble along. Is that what you mean by a male who can sing? 8—)

I think we are all, at some point, unused to the internet. Think of collaboration over the web, being just like any other creative partnership, only the person is not in the room with you. Or even in the same time zone.

If you are interested in collaborating with like minded souls, you are in the right place for it. You just have to reach out to someone. You can make it happen, Arol. You just have to do it. Hope all is well with you and your cd promotions. Good luck. Artie X

Dear Friends, We are in process of putting out a new CD, "ShadowLand". We are just finishing the artwork, the engineering is done and goes to the printer the begining of the year. I keep thinking it might be my last album but everyone doubts me because I always feel this may be the last. Well see ..

Love to you All and your support makes me feel so good

Yo, dear Arol.
So, here we are, 3 months on, and I see you have been touching others, as you had hoped. Shadow Lands sounds as powerful as when I first heard it. And, by the way, did you write the music, too? Great.
Merry Christmas, Arol, all the best to you and your projects in 2008. Artie

Hi Arol,
This is among the most compelling music I have heard in this community (and I listen to a lot...). Your music really radiates honesty, and I felt this too before I read my firend Artie's comment. I am really touched by it.
Great work.

I would appreciate it very much, if you would take the time to check out our "Songs of Love and Loss" project.

Wishing you all the best,

Jef
