my biography

Raised in the blistering cold north with a steady diet of metal, classic rock, abandoned records and cheap equipment. Micky Brains is the very embodiment of the neo-rustbelt sound.

Making his way through life with unsteady gigs in light industrial work, grounds keeping, chicken frying, dish washing, burger flipping, bread baking, painting, house building... with plenty of time to absorb the radio, the underground sounds of Upstate New York, the country Punk revival in SF, the jaunty death of old school NYC New Wave and the birth of TMBG, Jazz Funeral in Connecticut, Girl Toucher, Pixies, Zulus, Mission of Burma, and all the bands that all the bands now sound like....

Micky had plenty of time to ruminate and let the echoes coalesce inside his bored and empty head. The sound that came out was born of necessity, no electric guitar, old strings, no amp, no microphones, and too drunk to play complex riffs and rhythms.... The sound is... Well...

Take the wailing tubes from John Lennon's Vox, throw in some crunch from Fog Hat, a warm wisp of southern rebellion via Kentucky, Indiana and the Appalachia, throw in some new england hippie folk, pass it through a Rochester NY MXR Phaser, jam it into a cheap Peavy amp, and beat on it like there's not tomorrow, like keeping warm depended on playing yer guitar.

That's the sound.

It ain't pretty, it ain't delicate, its punk meets country blues, meets Iggy's Detroit.

Above all its honest and heartfelt and who could ask for more.

Hey Micky - good to see you here. Now all that's missing are a few tracks to live up to your bio. :)
