I just finished up a longer collaborative project with two other musicians here at MI7.
It's called "Ghosts Inc." and is instrumental illbient type of music.
We have five tracks posted on the profile right now, and I would be very interested in hearing your comments on the music. See community.mi7.com/profile/12178 for more info.
Thanks.
As all of you know, I am a devoted mom as well as a composer and musician. And as all of you know, I am a very vocal advocate for Autism Rights.
I enjoyed participating in Mindmovie's CCC project so much a few months ago that I was thinking it would be interesting to create a similar recording with snippets of my son's insights regarding Autism from an interview done with him in July 2007 and the update interview that was done with him last month.
What I am thinking of doing is using his comments along the lines of a hip hop / vocal dance mix composition. The purpose of the song would be to bring a better, more positive understanding of how children with Autism perceive the world in which they live ... our world, not their world.
I can only offer credits in lieu of money unfortunately. All of you are such incredible artists and all of you have been such good online friends to me in good times and in the most troubling times these past few months.
If you are interested in participating in this project (which would be promoted globally with links back to your websites or to your mi7 profile page just as our MIC Audio Podcasts on Autism are global), please email me at ravenmagic2003@yahoo.ca.
Thanks.
Raven :-)
read more...Dear friends,
I’m pleased to announce that my song “SONG FOR BAVAT”, written, composed, arranged and performed by me on guitars and keyboards (and singing!) together with members of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, won the Special Distinction Prize at the Third international contest “OTHER SONGS” on the theme of Intercultural Dialogue.
Click here to go to the contest’s website (you can listen to the song there)
The same page in French
At the end of the song you can also hear Bavat – singing and laughing... After all, this song was written for her.
I also won the second edition of this contest last year, with my song “Sandra’s Letter”. Here are the links:

Thanks for your time...

In spite of the fact that the past two months have been exceedingly difficult for me, I have nonetheless updated the MIDNIGHT IN CHICAGO website and uploaded it as of yesterday evening. Stop by at http://www.midnightinchicago.com and wander about the new digs.
This time, I've added 7 ringtones (one that is free to download for the summer) along with other interesting things. There's an MIC blog that's co-written with the American Artist, Thomas D. Taylor, who is also the MIC Artist. There's a "Dime A Day Inspirational Quotes" service visitors can sign up to receive and information on the "Art from the Heart" and "De la part des beaux arts" events this summer.
It's worth taking a peak without a doubt.
Also, the two-part audio podcast on Autism and Vaccines has been uploaded. The podcast discusses Autism, mercury, thimerosal, vaccines and separates fact from fearmongering fiction. You can find those at the website as well by clicking on the PODCAST tab.
Drop me a line and let me know what you think of the redesign and the podcast.

Dear friends,
Yesterday I was announced that my score for the hit TV series "Matai Nitnashek" ("When Shall We Kiss") - Israel's Channel 10's most successful series ever - is nominated for the Israel TV Academy Award for Best Music for 2008!
"Matai Nitnashek" is nominated in 7 other categories, including Best Dramatic Series, Best Directing and Best Screenplay for a Dramatic Series.
The winners will be announced in July.
You can listen to some of the music from “Matai Nitnashek” on my myspace page.
Last week it was also announced that "The Mythological Ex", the series for which I have also composed the music, was sold as a format to CBS in the USA, and after a pilot episode the series was picked up by the network, and will start airing next fall as "The Ex List".
More news later...

And again, for those of you who don't know me, by "remix" I mean "re-interpretation". :)
I was lucky to get a chance to work on another original track by rocha here at MI7 (community.mi7.com/profile/1463), and this is the result.

Here's the link and teaser to an interview I've conducted on behalf of ccMixter with the talented, intelligent, gracious and funny Calendar Girl:
"In October 2006, singer song-writer Tamara Barnett-Herrin from London in the UK published a one sentence challenge to herself and to remixers around the World Wide Web: “I write one song a month. You remix and feedback. We make a record.” This experiment in songwriting and remix culture unlike any other yielded over 300 remixes, setting a new record at ccMixter. Twelve of them have been chosen to be published in an album titled Calendar Songs Volume I due out May 26 (check calendarsongs.com). Known to the ccMixter community as Calendar Girl, she has graciously agreed to an interview with ccMixter."
. . .cause as any dunderhead knows, and thank gawd almighty for it, science keeps strippin away the layers of myth and mysticism where we're almost to the point that even a "big-selfed" entity such as my ownself won't, with any confidence whatsoever be able to even think about thankin gawd almighty, let alone sayin it. But folks is still comin up to me on an almost daily basis and sayin, "Hey, Doghouse Riley, I understand all that but what about your "such-ness" or your "thus-ness"?? Explain that away with a smart-alek comment or somethin. Ain't ya even in touch with yor own interiority?? Hell, I bet ya are and don't even know it. Or, more likely, won't admit it. Why are ya such a dang contrarian all the damn time? What good does it do ya? To which I usually reply, wail my interiority is as shabby as the next fellers which means a good vaccumin wouldn't hurt but my "such-ness" is the same as yors. . .non-existent, you numbnuts!! Listen (I usually go on), I ain't got a shovel big enough to dig out from under that pile of bull. And neither do you. And don't go startin any tangential shit about captive synapse energy fields neither or I'm liable ta kick ya in the nuts. Course, I say that with love.

My personal workaround is to spend as little time as possible on anything without completely compromising the work. In that spirit, I've done a few remixes at ccmixter (ccmixter.org/people/colab), and have tried to keep them to about 6 hours of work (usually a Friday and Saturday night).
That means that there's a bunch of work out there in draft form that may come back to life at some point in the future and be refined then. Until that time though, consider them ideas and a direction of where I'm going right now.
