Legal advice

Ok so the Lawman part of my name relates to my day job. My "Saturday" job is music (and playing Guitar - obviously).

In the spirit of this site, it has been suggested to me that I start a small general advice shop for all matters legal relating to music.

The only catch is that on-site I have to stay general on any given topic and cannot start giving specific legal advice which members may rely on in their business dealings. I can explain issues, or convey interesting information, but I cant go further than that.

However, like everything on this site, the aim is to give access to services and products at a better rate, and faster, than would normally be the case in the "real" world. That being the case I will be communicating with the mi7 posse to bring reasonable rates for real advice  should any mi7 member wish to formally engage my "real world" services.

Another difficulty in this is that the site is International, and my territory of practice is the UK. The good news is that music biz contracts tend to be pretty similar throughout the world in respect of the commercial terms that they contain and often the location of the Lawyer has little bearing on the outcome of the negotiation.

So watch out - following in due course will be a short article on songwriting and the rather strange case of "A Whiter Shade of Pale".

Requests will be considered after that.

 Peace

This is a very good idea. A lot of starting musicians are not aware enough of the legal difficulties and mousetraps of the business. Perhaps your advise should be on the main page of MI7? In a "member of the week" kind a way.

GLawman presading . . .?

The downside probably is that you can kiss your music making saturday's goodbye, because there will be asked many questions I'm sure.
Kind regards, Tom
