The great thing about contests is that someone wins. The other great thing about contests is that a lot of incredible work is discovered by others.

You may not have 'won' the contest in the technical sense, Jef, but you won the contest by gaining new fans and I'm proud to count myself among those fans.

Here is what I tell myself when good things happen, "This is an affirmation of what I already know to be true." And then I am thankful that at least on other person in this universe has seen the truth of who I am.

This contest was an affirmation of what you and Ann know to be true about your music ... it is appreciated and loved by many. Never let go of that truth, Jef. Keep on being the musician and composer you are and the same goes for Ann.

Hey RT,
thank you for the comment on my blog.
You are right about dreaming, often people who have put their dreams away are sad people.
Ann and I believe strongly in our music, and we'll never stop building our dreams about it. In this case I just meant it was back to reality. When we found out that we were in the last ten of the contest we were excited of course. You start thinking "what if...?".
I am sure we will get there eventually. Ann and I are both not dependent on music for our income, so we can make our own music with no needs for compromise whatsoever. We are working to finish the "Songs of Love and Loss" project as good as we can, in our own time and only in the way we feel it should sound.
And in the meantime the next project is already forming in my mind, with new things to dream about...

Small Minds don't dare to dream, because in reaching for the stars they are made aware of how far it is to fall; so they don’t try. I say “dream big dreams, people, and fear not the fall, nor heed the fool who laughs at those who do.” The fool is only jealous, for in laughing loudest, he hopes that others won’t notice he has no dreams of his own. Nor the courage to pursue any. - RT

Jef, there's nothing wrong in dreaming. Often, dreams are the basis for the action, and that can change a world. I view you and your music no differently than I did, yesterday. Keep on dreaming; keep on flying, Aeronaut.
