Hi all,

The new TV series DEUS, for which I have composed the music, starts airing by Israeli satellite broadcaster YES beginning next Sunday, November 23rd.

This prestigious and sophisticated series, YES's flagship series aimed at teenagers, is divided into 52 20-minutes episodes, and will be shown twice daily.

The series stars some of Israel's most popular young stars: Michael Lewis, Adi Himelbloy and Michael Moshonov.

I will try to upload the series opening, accompanied by my Main Theme for the series, after the series starts...

You can read more (in Hebrew) and watch some clips here.

Best wishes,

Ady

I AM WORKING ON AN IDEA RIGHT NOW THAT CAN CHANGE OUR LIVES IN THE USA AND MAYBE THE WORLD. SO MANY OF US LOVED THESE MEN AND YET THEY COULD NOT BE PROTECTED . PRESIDENT OBAMA MUST BE ALLOWED TO DO THE WORK INTENDED.
SO MANY YEARS AGO I WAS SITTING IN A CLASS ROOM AT PMA A MILITARY SCHOOL ACROSS THE RIVER FROM WEST POINT. OVER THE LOUD SPEAKER CAME THE WORDS THAT PRESIDENT KENNEDY HAD BEEN SHOT.
LIKE MOST OF US FOR GOOD AND FOR BAD WE FOUND OUT THAT ALL WAS NOT WELL WITH THINGS IN MY USA.
AND THEN MARTIN LUTHER KING AND THEN ROBERT AND ON AND ON .
I HAVE WRITTEN A SONG FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING AND NOW I WILL DEDICATE IT TO PRESIDENT OBAMA.I HAVE BEEN CALLED FROM ATLANTA AND ROBIN CASTLE AND THECENTER FOR THE ARTS SCHOOL HAVE AGREED TO HELP ME WITH A GOSPEL CHORUS AND BAND.TOGETHER WE RECORD A RECORD
WE WANT IT DONE BY THE TIME OUR NEW PRESIDENT IS SWORN IN AND PRESENTED TO HIM ON THAT DAY OR ON MARTIN LUTHER KINGS BIRTHDAY:::
THE SONG IS CALLED "MADE IT TO THE MOUNTAIN"AND YOU CAN HEAR THE FIRST VERSION I WROTE AT http://www.ilike.com/artist/JON+BEN+BERGER

Your recollections and song bring back my memories of the day the news of President Kennedy's assassination reached me -- in Korea! I can't tell you how strange it was to be serving in the Army in a country half way around the world, along a demilitarized zone, and learn that my commander in chief had been shot in my own country. Sure gave me something to think about.

John, I am speechless. heard the MLK song. Can find nothing wrong with it. Your music seems to come from a very stable and centered place within you. Rare for a musician, I mean I could go into where I think your influences stem from but that's not important. The song is simple, direct and fun. I like it. keep doing what you do

Dedicated to President Obama

Atlas Reshaped

At last, I have finished my remix of Anchor's Atlas. Now, it may seem that I am on a roll here, but I started quite some time ago with both Atlas Reshaped and A Comforting Solution. Not that I have been working on both these songs all that time, but still, both were not exactly created overnight.

Next up is a serious attempt at completing my version of Blind Date. This one I have been working on when I got stuck with everything else, but now it is time to try and finish it.

Unplug the Plugins !

Well, what a harrowing week it's been. Having the time to sit down and actually get it all togther and create something has got to be a gift at the best of times. A month just to write, a collection of internet collaboraters to help speed the process along, and long days dfirting off into the creative ether. Nothing could be better right ?

Now, nothing at all is suppossed to go to plan, and with no agenda, the pressure should be off, to just go with the flow and let the mind have a mental splurge. That is, until internet collaborater No1 comes up with some lyrics, a great tune, and a great voice to sing the tune, to a musical piece first visited a couple of months previous.

So, it's into the dark recesses of the computer, to pull up the track, and see how it sounds with a new melody line. Sounds great, and everything is flowing along well. So, it's a quick mixdown, and onto the internet for peer review.

First comment : "There is something very wrong sonically like the music is playing from a separate source than the vocals. I have never heard you have this sound before, is something off on the set up?

Second comment : " ...but the vox sound like they are recorded in a room quite different than where the music is taking place "

Third comment : ".....had the same sense of something off, so I'll look forward to the next one? "

And so they went on . OK, check and recheck, and yep, there is a phasing issue, and yep, those vocals are sounding really different to the backing track, so what's the problem ? The problem was, that the backing tracks were recorded months ago, built up one by one, with various effects being added to the tracks. Sometimes 2 or 3 units per track, as it was a bit thin at the time and needed some "oomph" After adding a total of thirty five tracks, each with it's own clutter of little gizmos to make it sound "better" the whole thing ends up a sonic cosmic slop, spinning around in the phones like a demented cat in a clothes drier.

Only solution. Back to basics. Back to square one. Back to kindy school and back to the simplicity of the sandpit. Like a child scribbling with crayons, the plugins are unceremoniously detatched and thrown out the virtual window hopefully to be shattered on the ground into a million little bits never to return. Replaced with just an EQ, a bit of reverb, a smidgeon of compression, and a big dash of ears, all is well in sonic land.

We live, we learn, and try to remember that "better" does not always mean "burden me down with gadgets" So the next time you consider brewing up a batch of sonic soup, just remember....... unplug the plugins.

cheers, niteshift

4 new (old) songs!

Hi friends,

I've recently added four new songs to my page, relatively old for me but new for this site:
Two more or less spontaneous instrumental improvisations (category: humor) and two songs, 'Bushmensong' and 'Mystery to Me'. The latter being based on an improvisation of words, guitar and Groove Agent. The lyrics seemed meaningless at first but in retrospect they reveal some meaning, at least to me.

Song art will follow…

I hope you like them.

Freedom

I have finished another track for my Orpheus In Hell project. This one features Snowflake's spoken word piece Freedom, which is therefore the title of my song. You can also hear some excellent clarinet playing by Fireproof Babies, which he recorded specifically for this song.

The track opens with a flute solo, originally called Still Life, which in its final version was inspired by the Dead Can Dance song Piece For Solo Flute from their splendid live album Toward The Within. I used a stretched and reversed version of my flute solo as an extra layer in the second part of the song.

A Comforting Solution

There is a new remix to be enjoyed. It's called A Comforting Solution and it's a remix of Artie Q's song Belief. I could waste your time by talking at lengths about it, but Artie has said it all here. The only thing I would like to add is that it was Duckett's drum loop which got the creative juices for this remix flowing again. So, thank you Duckett!

BELIEF: NEW REMIX by SUBLIMINAL

Yo, Boys & Girls! Well, 'es only gone and done it, ain't he? The Master of the Mind Manipulation, The (un)Scrupulous Subjugator of Subconscious Suggestion, SUBLIMINAL has done a Mind F**k on me and subverted the course of normal remix procedure by eliciting a bunch of vocal samples from me (while I was sleeping!) and produced a fab remix of my song BELIEF, called A COMFORTING SOLUTION ... OR DID HE??? Maybe I sent them of my own free will; you know, asked him to do it in the first place. "Hmm ..." See ...? That's what 'appens when you get involved with a top notch spoon bending psychic like SUBLIMINAL/TRIPLE M/THE MOUSE MANIPULATOR FROM THE LOWLANDS. Anyway, enough of my nonsense, check out A COMFORTING SOLUTION and let him know what you think. Thank you, Michel. Nice!

Song: Healers Moon

Check out this song of healing:
Lyrics:

Before my eyes, the world so tired and sick of all the fools.

A raft, a fragile place, a living space for me and you.

When I fall into a dream, I will impart the news.

When she rises in the sky She'll wash away our blues.

And this is good news, its a healers moon.

My dreams become my world a place where wonder lives.

Natures soul will thrive anew, the scars will heal and mend.

When I look into your eyes, reflecting all the blue,

I know deep down in my soul that what I feel is true.

That this is good news, from a healers moon.

credits : Carlo D'Anna - songwriter, lyrics/vocals, acoustic guitar Michael Duran - Bass, Drums, production Zozimo Rech - Synth strings, MOOG, additional drums & acoustic guitars.
Song: Rainforest Savior

A song dedicated to Sister Stang, of the Notre Dame nuns who was murdered for protecting the Amazon Rainforest.
I've retooled and edited this song to be more appropiate to the subject matter.
Sister Dorothy, born in Dayton, Ohio but a naturalized Brazilian citizen, worked as an advocate for the rural poor beginning in the early 1970s, helping peasants make a living by farming small plots and extracting forest products without deforestation. She also sought to protect them from criminal gangs who were after their land. Dot, as she was called by her family, friends and most locals in Brazil, is often pictured wearing a t-shirt with the slogan, "'A Morte da floresta é o fim da nossa vida," which is Portuguese for "The death of the forest is the end of our life."

" I don't want to flee, nor do I want to abandon the battle of these farmers who live without any protection in the forest. They have the sacrosanct right to aspire to a better life on land where they can live and work with dignity while respecting the environment. "
